Amalie Arena LED Video Upgrades: In Progress

Amalie Arena, a multipurpose live events venue in downtown Tampa, Florida, is undergoing a major video upgrade from Sensory Interactive and SNA Displays. Located next door to the Tampa Bay History Center and one mile from the Tampa Convention Center, the 20,000-seat venue is home to the National Hockey League’s Tampa Bay Lighting as well as concerts and other live events. The arena’s technology upgrades will include a large-format corner display, 220 linear feet of LED ribbon, and several LED kiosks featuring themed content to enhance gameday excitement.

Owner representative and strategic advisor Sensory Interactive provided technology selection and procurement, documentation and acquisition, and construction management services on behalf of Amalie Arena, selecting SNA Displays to provide 6 and 10 mm EMPIRE™ Exterior video display technology.

Amalie Arena Display Summary

Corner Wrap 10 mm EMPIRE™ Exterior 40'2" x 97'8" 1,224 x 2,976
LED Ribbon (x2) 10 mm EMPIRE™ Exterior 4'9" x 110'3" 144 x 3,360
Double-sided Kiosk (x8) 6 mm EMPIRE™ Exterior 7'10" x 4'9" 400 x 240

The corner-wrap display, well-suited for 3D anamorphic content, measures approximately 40' x 98' (1,224 x 2,976 pixels) and faces Channelside Drive to the north and S. Morgan Street to the west. Façade-mounted above the Ashley VIP Lounge, the nearly 4,000 square-foot LED spectacular employs a 10 mm pixel pitch and processes more than 3.6 million pixels. It replaced static signage featuring Tampa Bay Lighting players.

A pair of 110-foot-long LED ribbons flank stairs leading to Amalie Arena’s main entrance from parking garages along S. Morgan. The ribbons, which sport a 10 mm pixel pitch at a resolution of 144 x 3,360 pixels, overlook Ford’s Thunder Alley, a courtyard adjacent to the corner-wrap display that contains a taproom, a stage, and other pre-game amenities. They replaced channel letter signs on the façade between the arena’s first and second level.

Finally, eight double-sided walkup LED kiosks are staged throughout the venue’s exterior. Each vertically oriented 6 mm display is 7'10" x 4'9" (400 x 200 pixels) and process 96,000 pixels.

Technology integrator AmpThink provided LED installation services.
