SNA Displays Selected for Michigan State’s Football Stadium Upgrade

EAST LANSING, MI—Michigan State University (MSU) chose SNA Displays to replace the aging video display technology at Spartan Stadium, home to the Big Ten powerhouse’s football program. With a capacity of 75,000, “The Woodshed” is perennially one of the most-attended NCAA stadiums and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2023. Construction on the stadium’s massive end zone video boards is currently underway.

Owner-representative Anthony James Partners (AJP) provided design and procurement services, supporting MSU in selecting SNA Displays to manufacture and supply the new videoboards using its 10 mm pixel pitch EMPIRE™ Exterior line of LED video display technology.

SNA Displays will retrofit the stadium’s primary scoreboard and centerpiece, the south end zone display; the two northeast auxiliary video scoreboards; the 4,500-square-foot, curved fascia display on the stadium’s north end; and 172 linear feet of field-level LED ribbon.

The updates will extend the south endzone scoreboard, which is one of the largest in the country, by 18 feet for almost 1,000 square feet of additional digital canvas. SNA Displays is also overseeing the demolition and removal of the original LED product as well as installation of new LED illuminated channel signage and cladding.

“As a primary revenue generator for corporate sponsorships and being critical to game day operations, replacing the boards is necessary as all three are at the end of their lifespan,” according to the Spartan’s website.

Other Spartan Stadium modernization efforts include upgrading structural and building systems, enhancing safety and security measures, renovating stadium suited for modern ADA-compliant facilities, improving stadium seating, and more.

“Having established a good relationship with Michigan State University through our work at the Breslin Center, we are thrilled to be back to work at one of college football’s premier venues,” said Barbara Barry, director of sports and live events at SNA Displays. “These upgrades to Spartan Stadium will not only enhance the gameday experience for the MSU community, but will increase revenue generation opportunities through businesses, sponsors, and alumni donors.”

SNA Displays’ video board enhancements are scheduled to be completed prior to the start of the 2025 NCAA Division I FBS season.
