Excessive heat is the dreaded antagonist of electronics. This is true of virtually all electronic components. Although some electronics are designed to create heat, if they become hot enough, failure is close at hand. As the saying goes, “Every machine can be a smoke machine if you operate it wrong enough.”

But when it comes to light-emitting diodes (LEDs), how much heat is too much?
