Whittier Public Library Digital Archway
SNA Displays manufactured and installed a digital archway at the main branch of the Whittier Public Library. Whittier is located in Los Angeles County, approximately 12 miles southeast of the City of Los Angeles.
The digital display employs a 2.5 mm pixel pitch from SNA Displays’ BOLD™ Interior line of LED video technology. The LED display consists of two columns joined overhead at 90-degree angles by a third section of LED screen. Each floor-to-ceiling column is two and a half feet wide and the overhead section goes from wall to wall, meaning that visitors are briefly immersed on three sides by LED video technology as they pass through “The Portal” from the main library area to the children’s section.
AV integrator Electrosonic managed installation of the dual-faced display system, which processes more than 2.3 million pixels.
The LED display Portal is part of a massive renovation to the 60-year-old library. The building’s overhaul also addressed several physical and structural updates, added more than 5,000 square feet to the facility, and introduced several new stories, among other internal improvements.
Installation required careful coordination with architectural and integrator teams to place the digital portal in the space while giving due consideration to the surrounding walls and passageway, efficiently landing power and data cabling, and ensuring proper ventilation.
