Union Station – Washington, DC
SNA Displays replaced outdated digital signage for the parking garage and bus terminal entrance at Union Station in Washington, D.C., which is a key intermodal transportation hub for the nation’s capital. The upgraded LED video technology was installed as part of Union Station Redevelopment Corporation’s (USRC) near-term modernization efforts to improve the commuter and customer experience.
USRC selected a 33-foot-long LED screen from SNA Displays’ EMPIRE™ Exterior line of video display technology. The choice to employ outdoor LED display technology in the mostly-enclosed station entrance centered around environmental factors. Because the building envelope is not closed off, the location is subject to humidity and exhaust from the buses and trains, making outdoor LED technology best suited for the longevity of the display.
Measuring approximately 5' x 33' (384 x 2,560 pixels), the 3.9 mm video screen greets commuters at the entrance between the station’s bus terminal and the train concourse that houses Amtrak and the commuter rail lines MARC and VRE. The display is wall-mounted just below ground level and viewable to visitors transitioning down escalators into the station from street level. In addition to manufacturing and installing the LED screen, SNA Displays provided demolition for the old digital signage.
