FBC Mortgage Stadium Digital Signage Network

SNA Displays added 13 digital signage assets to the University of Central Florida’s (UCF) Division I football stadium. FBC Mortgage Stadium, also known as “the Bounce House,” is home to the UCF Knights and seats over 44,000 spectators.

Owner-representative Anthony James Partners (AJP) provided design and procurement services for UCF, selecting SNA Displays to provide 10 mm EMPIRE™ Exterior display technology for the digital upgrade.

SNA Displays’ addition to the Bounce House’s digital display network comprises two field-level LED ribbons, a club-level LED ribbon, two field-level tunnel displays, and eight vomitory displays. The two field-level ribbons have a short return to match the stadium’s architecture.

The UCF campus includes two other sites featuring LED video technology from SNA Displays: John Euliano Park and The Venue.

Unique Challenges

UCF’s football stadium is known as “the Bounce House” because fan movement during a game (i.e., hopping) results in significant oscillating deflection. Thus, extreme care was taken to accurately measure dozens of stadium structural steel dimensions to allow for flexibility before completing engineering and manufacturing of support frames.

The primary challenge was to translate existing stadium steel to precise LED mounting and alignment for a seamless appearance while on a tight schedule.  For example, the grandstand and tunnel had to slot into the existing vomitory structure with less than an inch of clearance on either side.

Furthermore, SNA Displays’ task to add the digital signage during the football season required two highly skilled LED installers to work together (both in parallel and in series) to achieve precise installation of 13 displays within a short duration between home games. Bumgarner Construction provided LED installation services for the vomitories and field tunnel displays and Phoenix Signs provided LED installation services for the field-level ribbons.

Another challenge was the requirement to find a custom deployment method for the content management system, Ross Video’s multifaceted video management tool XPression Tessera. Because of capacity constraints in the main control room, control equipment had to be distributed within the stadium.
