Give Kids The World Incorporates LED into Pirate Ship Attraction

SNA Displays manufactured and supplied a direct-view outdoor LED screen for the pirate ship attraction Serendipity at the nonprofit theme park Give Kids the World Village, located in central Florida.

The LED display, located near the center of the new ship in an open deck area, is 9'10" tall by 16'5" wide and contains more than 980,000 total pixels (768 x 1,280). The EMPIRE™ Exterior LED screen features an extremely tight 3.91 mm pixel pitch and a 16:9 aspect ratio, ideal for the park’s “Dive-In” movie events. The LED screen also serves as a backdrop and dynamic communications piece for the venue’s “Pirates and Princesses” weekly outdoor entertainment events. The new digital display screen represents a significant technology upgrade because it is visible at all times of the day, whereas the previous ship had a projector that could only be seen in the evenings.

Electrosonic oversaw installation and managed the integration of all audio-visual components. SNA Displays built the LED display technology after Give Kids The World evaluated similar technology at nearby Margaritaville Resort Orlando and was present throughout the project to support installation.

Destination Venues

Entertainment destination venues are some of the most complex settings for digital display systems. Broadly defined as places people decide to visit and stay at for an extended period, as opposed to passing by and entering out of curiosity, destination venues are all-inclusive locations designed to encourage visitors to stay on a single property. Often, visitors travel from far away and remain for several days or longer.

The last few years have seen many new entertainment complexes emerge and most of them incorporate LED screens as a crucial means of advertising, digital wayfinding, or artistic expression. It takes a unique combination of skills and expertise to ensure digital elements in a destination venue are done well, but the end result can give property owners an invaluable communications network with numerous benefits.
