SNA Displays to Unveil Highest-Resolution LED Screen in History of Times Square

NEW YORK CITY—One of this year’s most anticipated LED displays will be unveiled Wednesday, August 23 by Sansi North America (SNA) Displays, a leading manufacturer of custom LED displays and lighting solutions.

New York City’s newest large-format LED video spectacular will be the highest-resolution LED screen in the storied history of Times Square.

“We are excited to unveil this groundbreaking digital display,” said Dennis Hickey, president of SNA Displays. “We’ve been anticipating this moment since we won the project, and we can’t wait for the world to see it.”

SNA Displays was awarded the project by Witkoff, a leading investment and development firm based in Manhattan. Witkoff, along with Winthrop Realty Trust, Maefield Development and other partners, developed the 39-story, 350,000-square-foot project, which is home to a 452-key Marriott EDITION hotel. At 701 7th Avenue, also known as 20 Times Square, the high-rise towers over the historic Duffy Square and will reportedly house such prominent tenants as Hershey Corporation and NFL Experience.

The wrap-around S|Video™ display canvas, which represents more than 17,000 square feet of LED display technology, is one of the largest continuous exterior displays in the world. Additionally, it will become the largest LED screen in the world built with exterior 8 mm pixel pitch technology.

With 8K Ultra-HD processing, the project’s main screen is built to accommodate the next generation of video and broadcast media content. 8K UHD represents four times the resolution of 4K and 16 times that of high-definition (HD). All signal processing from the media servers to the display is frame-accurate, allowing for a flicker-free, stunning-quality viewing experience.

The project also includes a hotel blade sign, which extends approximately 100 feet high and consists of 1,968,000 pixels, bringing the project’s total pixel count to 26,676,000 pixels.

“It was an honor and a challenge to work on such a historic project,” said Carl Hubben, director of project management at SNA Displays, “and we are all excited to unveil the finished result. Designing, fabricating, and installing the highest-definition LED display in Times Square had unique challenges because our tolerances were reduced an additional 25 percent from similar displays. Every decision we made throughout the process was that much more precise.”

Sensory Interactive was the owner consultant for the 20 Times Square project.

SNA Displays Installs LED Video Screens Outside MSG Networks Penn Plaza Studios

NEW YORK CITY—Sansi North America (SNA) Displays, a leading manufacturer of custom LED display and lighting solutions, provided an integrated LED display system for MSG Networks. The project included four same-sized video screens and curved LED-backlit channel letters for the MSG Networks brand.

The project site, located at 11 Penn Plaza (southeast corner of 7th Avenue and 32nd Street), is across the street from Madison Square Garden and Penn Station. The high-rise is also home to Macy’s and AMC Networks.

The bustling intersection is visited by up to one million people per day.

“These new video displays create another high-impact vehicle to showcase our brands, content, studios and partners,” said Andrea Greenberg, president and CEO, MSG Networks. “This will be a great opportunity to promote our award-winning content to a million people that pass by every day.”

SNA Displays provided the four LED S|Video™ displays mounted outside of the building’s tall windows. Each single-faced video screen is 9’5” x 9.5” and 432 x 432 pixels. The display system includes a total of nearly 750,000 pixels.

The display installation is the first in New York City to employ exterior video screens with a 6.67 mm pixel pitch, meaning the center of each pixel is less than a quarter-inch from an adjacent pixel. With such a high pixel density, MSG Networks is able to produce crisp, clear content on a relatively small canvas.

“We are proud to be the first company in New York City with dynamic displays of this technology and clarity,” said Gerard Passaro, MSG Networks’ senior vice president, network and technical operations.

The project also called for “MSG NETWORKS” channel letters backlit with LED lighting technology. There are two sets of the branding signage, both of which extend from the building and curve towards a point about 20’ from the building. The channel letters are positioned 12 feet above grade and are fully integrated into the display system, allowing MSG Networks to adjust its branding element to complement the content on the LED displays.

“We were honored to have been chosen to work with MSG Networks on this project,” said Dennis Hickey, president of SNA Displays. Hickey, a product of New York State, moved the company to the heart of Times Square in 2015 to better meet the demands of the Times Square market. “I’ve watched games on MSG Networks my entire life, so I was excited to have the opportunity to work with their team. We look forward to a long partnership.”

SNA Displays employed Landmark Signs to build the project’s channel letter signage and install the display system.

Sansi North America Provides State-of-the-Art LED Display System to World’s Largest Sports Brand

NEW YORK CITY—Sansi North America (SNA), a leading manufacturer of custom LED display and lighting solutions, recently completed installation of a series of interior LED video displays for the US headquarters of the world’s largest athletic apparel brand.

The innovative project features 13 LED “clouds,” state-of-the-art LED displays suspended from the headquarters’ lobby ceiling. The S|Video™ interior displays range in size from 22 square feet to nearly 150 square feet, resulting in a combined 620 square feet of digital displays and more than four million pixels. The clouds work in tandem, seamlessly creating a single creative digital canvas and a unique experience for employees and visitors.

“While we have become leaders in the large-format spectacular display market, it’s exciting to provide tight-pitch interior displays in a corporate setting like this, because the tolerances are reduced dramatically,” said John Pisciotta, SNA Displays project manager. “Each frame and panel needed to be installed and commissioned with a sharp eye for detail. We had to be perfect.”

SNA Displays worked closely with several outside agencies to ensure that the safety parameters and precision required for the installation of each unit were met.

“Because of the nature of the project, we needed to design and coordinate a structure that worked with many trades—HVAC, lighting, A/V speakers, and sprinklers—to ensure that the LED displays were properly placed,” Pisciotta said. “Every design and engineering decision throughout the process required extreme precision.”

Other partners involved in the project were Ryan Biggs Clark Davis, the structural engineering firm that provided design services for hanging the displays; AMA Sign & Electric Company, which installed the displays; Show + Tell, which provided control equipment expertise; and Coherent Design, the consultant hired by the client to spearhead and manage the project.

“We’re very pleased with the outcome of this project,” said Pete Simon, sales manager for SNA. “Providing services and industry knowledge for one of the largest brands in the world was a privilege. Working with their team was truly an honor.”

Two New LED Displays Light Up Norfolk’s Revitalized Waterside District

SNA_Waterside_LEDDisplays.jpg

NORFOLK, VIRGINIA—Sansi North America (SNA) Displays, a leading manufacturer of custom LED display and lighting solutions, provided two S|Video™ LED displays for Norfolk’s revitalized Waterside District.

Located in the heart of Norfolk’s central business district and next to the city’s world-class waterfront along the banks of the Elizabeth River, Waterside District is the area’s newest dining and entertainment experience.

As part of the display project, SNA Displays manufactured and supplied two large LED displays which were installed onto separate, custom-built towers placed at opposite ends of the venue’s property. Both exterior video screens employ a 10 mm pixel pitch and utilize surface-mount device (SMD) pixel packaging technology. Each display measures 22’10” high by 15’8” wide and has a resolution of 696 pixels high by 480 pixels wide.

“This was an interesting and rewarding project for us,” said Jason Helton, executive vice president for SNA Displays. “The client reached out to us for help late in the process and, with very little notice, we were able to complete the project in time for the venue’s highly-publicized grand opening festivities. Sansi stepped in to handle the situation for a client in need of support.”

Rasool Sayed, SNA Display’s project manager for the job, reiterated the challenge in getting the displays installed before Waterside District’s grand opening.

“The biggest challenge of this project was the tight deadline,” he said. “But, as always, our team delivered quality products on time and with outstanding service. The result is two state-of-the-art LED displays that will help illuminate the city’s revitalized waterfront.”

Other companies involved in the project included Cordish Companies, the real estate development firm, and Sullaway Engineering, a full-service engineering company tasked with handling the screens’ structural engineering.

SNA Displays Installs New LINE FRIENDS Times Square Spectaculars

NEW YORK CITY—Sansi North America (SNA) Displays, a leading manufacturer of custom LED display and lighting solutions, recently installed yet another spectacular display in Times Square. The new high-resolution digital displays, located at 1515 Broadway, between 44th and 45th streets, includes a large main screen and a ticker, both of which wrap around two sides of the building’s exterior.

The upgraded LED technology replaced an older digital display used by Aeropostale to advertise its brand outside the Times Square retail store.

The new displays will primarily be utilized by LINE FRIENDS, a popular Asia-based retailer which previously had a temporary pop-up store in Times Square. A global branding company comprised of sticker characters, LINE FRIENDS can expect as many as 330,000 daily Times Square visitors to view its messaging.

The new LED displays were designed by Sensory Interactive to maximize square footage and run along the building’s exterior. Unique to this installation, a custom HVAC system had to be designed to sit behind the displays to allow for proper airflow.

The LED video displays include a total of 1,647 square feet. With a pixel pitch of 10 mm, the display system contains more than 2.3 million pixels.

In addition to manufacturing the screens, SNA Displays also completed the waterproofing and glass work for the displays. Landmark Signs & Electrical Maintenance Corp. was tasked with the removal and replacement of the displays, while Ryan Biggs Clark Davis, an engineering consultancy firm, provided the structural engineering services for the project.

“This was another very successful Times Square project for us,” said Rasool Sayed, project manager for SNA Displays. “While we complete these types of display installations every day, I’m proud to have managed this project on time and under budget in one of the busiest and most high-traffic areas in the world.”

CLEVELAND, OHIO—Sansi North America (SNA), a leading manufacturer of custom LED display and lighting solutions, recently wrapped up a multi-display installation for Cleveland’s popular, not-for-profit performing arts center, Playhouse Square.

Playhouse Square, which draws in more than a million visitors annually, is the second largest theater district in the United States after New York City’s Times Square.

The project includes six LED displays positioned at the exterior entrances of three adjacent historic theaters—Ohio Theatre, State Theatre, and Hanna Theatre. Each display is attached to the sides of marquees that are cantilevered from the buildings’ exteriors and will be used to showcase upcoming releases, show times and other information. The screens contain a combined total of more than 80,000 pixels.

“The new LED displays help brighten up Playhouse Square and were installed just in time for the opening of the venues’ latest theatrical and musical productions,” said Rasool Sayed, project manager for SNA Displays. “We’re very pleased with the outcome of this project.”

Sansi North America Opens Office in Miami

MIAMI—Sansi North America (SNA), a leading manufacturer of custom LED displays and lighting solutions, recently opened a new office in the Brickell neighborhood of Miami. The new office will accommodate SNA’s continued accelerated growth throughout North America and will serve as a strategic location for its marketing, sales, and operations divisions.

“SNA has been engaged in the South Florida region for quite some time now,” said Dennis Hickey, President of SNA. “The trends in both building development and digital signage are promising indicators for our industry. Miami is home to many well-known brands, and it’s essential for us to have a presence to further support current and prospective clients.”

The new Miami office will work closely with SNA’s recently opened Mexico City location as well, as much of the Latin American customer base does business in Miami.

“We are very excited about the new exposure in the Miami market,” said Regina Sequiros, who runs the Mexico City office for SNA. Sequiros will also work very closely with the Miami office and its clients. “We will be much better able to service existing and prospective clients with the added space and personnel.”

SNA Sponsors Expo Publicitas Tradeshow in Mexico City

After the opening of its Mexico City office last month, Sansi North America (SNA) has continued expanding its footprint south of the border by serving as a major sponsor during Expo Publicitas, one of the largest annual advertising and marketing tradeshows in Mexico and Latin America.

The tradeshow, which took place May 24 through 26 at the Centro Citibanamex convention center in the city’s western region, featured hundreds of vendors across a multitude of industries, including digital signage, digital marketing, and event production. Through its sponsorship, SNA was able to continue building relationships in Mexico City and Latin America while also introducing itself to potential clients unfamiliar with SNA’s work in the LED industry.

“Expo Publicitas is the most important marketing and advertising show in Latin America; it has been around for almost 20 years,” says Regina Sequeiros, managing director of SNA Mexico. “Having a presence at the show is important because we’re bringing our LED quality and services to Latin America—especially to this industry that is rapidly growing.”

In addition to sponsoring the tradeshow, SNA also held an invitation-only reception on the evening of May 25 that was attended by more than 100 guests and featured a live concert performed by a local DJ and musicians. Following the celebration, on May 26 Dennis Hickey, president of SNA, offered a presentation on the topic of “Success in Digital Spectaculars,” which served as a platform to introduce area business leaders to the company and its extensive experience in the LED technology marketplace in the United States and worldwide.

Sansi North America Expands, Opens Office in Mexico City

NEW YORK CITY— Sansi North America (SNA), a leading manufacturer of custom LED displays and lighting solutions, is excited to announce the opening of its newest satellite office located in Mexico City, Mexico. The decision to open a new office south of the border was a strategic move to help keep up with the company’s accelerated growth throughout North America. It will also provide employees ready access to potential clients within the region and will serve as a strategic location for SNA’s marketing, sales, petroleum operations, and partnerships in the LED display industry.

“Our goal is to provide total project satisfaction, and having an office in one of the world's largest cities was a necessity to deliver to our clients’ expectations,” says Dennis Hickey, president of SNA. “Our existing relationships and the market potential in Mexico City made the decision easy. We look forward to continuing to expand our global presence.”

Regina Sequeiros, SNA Mexico’s managing director, will manage the new office and will be responsible for expanding the company’s reach throughout Mexico and Latin America.

“I joined the SNA family two years ago and, due to my background and previous residence in Mexico City, I was commissioned to expand the company into this booming market,” said Regina, who grew up in the Polanco area of Mexico City. “Latin America has a rapidly growing market that demands high quality and reliable LED technology, and cities like Mexico City are becoming economic and architectural hubs, which is important for our industry.”

Additionally, SNA recently hired Rodrigo Sequeiros as director of business development for the Mexico City office. He will be responsible for managing client relationships in the region and fostering new business leads.

“Mexico is a huge market for the business segments of the company, and the growth opportunities are enormous,” said Rodrigo. “The most important thing is to adapt to the way of doing business in this region while maintaining the values of SNA.”

The new office space is located at Avenida Presidente Masark 111, Col. Chapultepec Morales, 11560 Mexico City, Mexico. Prior to opening the new office, SNA has managed its Mexico City operations from its headquarters in New York City’s Time Square. Project Update: 20 Times Square

20-times-square-update1

One of the most anticipated LED video display projects in Times Square history is nearing the finish line with expected completion in fall 2017. The mixed-development commercial site at 701 Seventh Avenue in New York City will include tenants such as the NFL Experience Times Square, an exhibition and live production space presented by the National Football League and Cirque du Soleil, as well as a 452-guestroom Marriott EDITION hotel. The crown jewel of the new site, identified as 20 Times Square, will be the 18,000-square-foot, custom LED display that will wrap around the building’s exterior.

UPDATE: 20 Times Square screen will be unveiled to the public at 6:00 pm, Tue., Aug., 22. More information here.

Manufactured by Sansi North America (SNA), the main display will be almost 100 feet tall and will be the highest-resolution LED spectacular in Times Square. The curved screen, capable of displaying 4K content in addition to several additional HD content segments, will be available for use by advertisers, tenants and other third parties.

“Designing, fabricating, and installing this huge project has unique challenges because our tolerances have been reduced an additional 25 percent from similar displays,” says Carl Hubben, director of project management at SNA. “Every design and engineering decision throughout the process has been carefully calculated and extremely precise. It has been an honor and a challenge to work on such a historic project, and we are all excited to see the finished result.”

In addition to SNA, North Shore Neon Sign Co., Sensory Interactive, the Witkoff Group, Vector Group, hotelier Ian Schrager, Winthrop Realty Trust, and Maefield Development are involved in various aspects of the sites design, development and construction.

iHeartRadio Sign Replaces Iconic History Channel Billboard in NYC

New York - Perched high atop a red brick industrial building where the Harlem River divides Manhattan from the Bronx, The History Channel sign has long been an iconic piece of New York City’s architectural landscape. But recently, the structure at 20 Bruckner Blvd., which once served as an icehouse for a local brewing company, received an extensive facelift. The antiquated signage was replaced by a modern digital LED display for iHeartMedia.

iHeart_LED_Display

The new LED screen was manufactured by Sansi North America (SNA) and retrofitted by Clear Channel Outdoor. The approximately 17-foot-by-138-foot 20 mm LED display is 256 pixels tall by 2,096 pixels wide and is large enough to view from numerous vantage points beyond its location in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx. In addition, North Shore Neon Co. was responsible for completing the massive installation, which involved dismantling the previous sign, including its enormous red letters.

The new signage, which bears the iHeartRadio logo, was designed to maintain an appearance similar to that of its predecessor, which occupied the space for nearly twenty years. Thanks to its proximity to Interstate 87/Major Deegan Expressway, a major thoroughfare that traces the periphery of the borough, along with clear sight-lines from the Triborough/RFK and Willis Avenue bridges, the display is positioned in a high-visibility location, making it an ideal spot for advertising. Over the years, more than a half-dozen brands have occupied this advertising space, including Knickerbocker Beer, Cities Service Gasoline (Citgo), and Kent Cigarettes.

The new display will serve as a major branding and message center for iHeartMedia, a media and entertainment company that owns iHeartRadio and Clear Channel Outdoor, and is also available for usage by third-party advertisers.

SNA Expands NYC Project Management Team

NEW YORK – In an effort to keep up with a rapidly growing docket of projects in the Northeastern U.S., Sansi North America (SNA), a leading manufacturer of custom LED display and lighting solutions, has reorganized and expanded its project management team.

Earlier this year, SNA promoted Carl Hubben, P.E., to Director of Project Management. Hubben, who has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architectural engineering, is based in SNA’s Times Square office and has managed many LED display projects across the country.

“With the amount of growth we are seeing, it’s an exciting and challenging time for our project management staff,” said Hubben, who now oversees all of the company’s project management processes. “And we will continue to seek out the best talent we can find to add to our team so that we can meet and exceed the needs of each and every client.”

Hubben and SNA’s executive staff have already begun to add to its project management teams. SNA has announced the hiring of two project managers, Matthew Shubeck and Rasool Sayed. Both will work out of SNA’s Times Square headquarters, though they will both manage projects across North America.

Matthew Shubeck

Matthew Shubeck

Shubeck has experience with multiple fast-paced and diverse projects in the New York City residential development and renovation industry. His structural-engineering background translates well to his new management role with SNA, enabling him to contribute to projects that are intricate in design and demanding in schedule. Shubeck, who earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from the Stevens Institute of Technology, has already helped manage several projects in his short employment at SNA.

Rasool Sayeed

Rasool Sayeed

Sayed brings several years of project management experience from the architectural glass and hardware industries. His experience includes drafting and managing projects from schematic design through design development, construction documents, and construction management. Sayed, who has a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the New York Institute of Technology, has already worked on several LED display projects for SNA.

These new hires are indicative of SNA’s growth across North America. The company has also recently opened new offices in Knoxville, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Miami, and Mexico City.
