NEW YORK CITY— One of the most anticipated LED video display projects in Times Square history is nearing the finish line with expected completion in fall 2017. The mixed-development commercial site at 701 Seventh Avenue in New York City will include tenants such as the NFL Experience Times Square, an exhibition and live production space presented by the National Football League and Cirque du Soleil, as well as a 452-guestroom Marriott EDITION hotel. The crown jewel of the new site, identified as 20 Times Square, will be the 18,000-square-foot custom LED display that will wrap around the building’s exterior.
UPDATE: The 20 Times Square screen will be unveiled to the public at 6:00 pm, Tuesday, August, 22.
Manufactured by Sansi North America (SNA), the main display will be almost 100 feet tall and will be the highest-resolution LED spectacular in Times Square. The curved screen, capable of displaying 4K content in addition to several additional HD content segments, will be available for use by advertisers, tenants and other third parties.
“Designing, fabricating, and installing this huge project has unique challenges because our tolerances have been reduced an additional 25 percent from similar displays,” says Carl Hubben, director of project management at SNA Displays. “Every design and engineering decision throughout the process has been carefully calculated and extremely precise. It has been an honor and a challenge to work on such a historic project, and we are all excited to see the finished result.”
In addition to SNA, North Shore Neon Sign Co., Sensory Interactive, the Witkoff Group, Vector Group, hotelier Ian Schrager, Winthrop Realty Trust, and Maefield Development are involved in various aspects of the sites design, development and construction.
