Museum Digital Art Piece Manufactured by SNA Displays Wins Second Award

NEW YORK—Last week, the digital art piece The Chronicles of San Francisco was recognized with an award for Best Digital Sign Application: Digital Signage as Art from Digital Signage Magazine. The DIGI Award was yet another honor for the state-of-art exhibit at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) featuring the work of renowned artist JR.

Earlier this year, the digital art piece earned an International Design Award (IDA).

SNA Project SFMOMA 1 1

For the exhibit, which celebrates San Francisco’s extraordinary and diverse people, internationally recognized artist JR set up a mobile studio in more than 20 locations where he filmed, photographed, and interviewed more than 1,200 people from across San Francisco’s multifaceted communities. Sensory Interactive provided design, technical specification, procurement, and project management.

The resulting first-of-its-kind digital canvas contains nearly 26 million pixels and is among the highest resolution LED displays in the nation. It has been on display to the public at SFMOMA’s Roberts Family Gallery since May of 2019.

“We’re all excited to see such a positive reaction to this beautiful work of art,” said Dennis Hickey, president of SNA Displays. “We got into this business to help our clients realize their visions with high-end digital displays, and it’s nice to see the hard work for the artist and everyone involved pay off.”

Digital Signage Magazine’s highly regarded DIGI Awards program recognizes outstanding integrators, content providers, and product manufacturers focusing on digital signage.

Other high-profile digital art installations manufactured by SNA Displays include 350 Mission Street in San Francisco and the giant LED human head sculpture “As We Are” at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.
