As we continue our employee spotlight series, let’s learn a little more about Candice Shah.

Candice is a human resources coordinator at SNA Displays. She has a Bachelor of Business Administration and Human Resources Management from Pace University and is a Certified Professional from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM-CP).

Personal Background

Where did you grow up? Do you have any favorite childhood memories you’d like to share?

I grew up in Edison, NJ. Some of my favorite childhood memories include travelling with my family to the Caribbean, Florida and visiting various theme parks across the country.

How do you like to spend your free time?

I like to spend my time cooking, baking, developing recipes, enjoying food photography, going to waterparks, and spending time with my sweet kitty Nala, who I adopted in March 2021.

What’s a fun fact most people don’t know about you?

A fun fact people don’t know about me is that I did ballet when I was younger and recently picked it back up as an adult. I am also obsessed with anything true crime related.

Besides your job, what subject(s) are you interested in or have expertise in?

Aside from my job, I have previous experience with interior design and am also interested in psychology, dance, travel, and photography.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten?

The best advice I’ve ever gotten is to work smarter not harder.

Professional Background

What did you do professionally before joining SNA Displays?

Before joining SNA Displays, I worked in HR for a public relations agency in the city. I assisted with putting together a companywide benefits guidebook, full-cycle recruitment, performance reviews, and diversity and inclusion.  

What has been your favorite job (other than SNA Displays of course) and why?

My favorite job other than SNA Displays was an internship I did in college for a company called Rescuing Leftover Cuisine, a food rescue organization. Part of my responsibilities included delivering food from various restaurants to 501(c)3 non-profit organizations that experience food insecurity.

What drew you to SNA Displays?

I was drawn to SNA Displays by its family-oriented culture.

In your own words, how would you describe your current role?

My current role is a mix of all things HR from recruitment to benefits, diversity & inclusion, training, and employee relations.

How have your previous jobs been similar to working at SNA Displays?

My previous jobs have been similar to working at SNA because of the family-oriented culture as well as the size of the company.

What is your typical workday like?

A typical workday includes answering emails, specifically questions related to our benefits and policies. Additionally, I work with various vendors to plan companywide training for the staff, develop policies and procedures, and onboard new employees.

What do you like most about your job?

I love being able to create policies and fun employee engagement activities for our staff. By doing so, I have been able to tap into a creative outlet that I didn’t even know I had!  

What accomplishment at SNA Displays are you most proud of? Your career overall? What is your next big accomplishment going to be?

My biggest accomplishment at SNA Displays that I am the most proud of is revamping our onboarding process for new employees. A new employee’s first day is one of the most important days, and it has been very rewarding to be a resource and point of contact for new hires when they join the company.

In terms of my career, I am the most proud of obtaining my SHRM-CP certification. In the future, I plan to obtain a SHRM-SCP certification.

How has your current role helped in your career development?

My current role has helped in my career development in the sense that I have been able to take training courses in various HR practices where I may not have much experience.

Looking to the Future

Where is SNA Displays and/or the industry headed in the next 10 years?

From an HR perspective, hopefully within the next 10 years we can double the number of staff we have. With the pandemic slowly coming to an end, we are looking forward to further growing the team at SNA Displays.

What advice would you give a prospective SNA Displays employee in your field?

The advice I would give to a prospective SNA Displays employee in my field is to be open to providing feedback and suggestions in how we can make our department better, whether it be improving current practices or implementing new policies.
