Battery-Powered LED Video Elevates High School Marching Band Performance

Leander High School’s marching band, whose impressive record makes it one of the country’s most accomplished high school bands, has made waves throughout the 2025 competitive season by incorporating an LED video experience into its Alice in Wonderland-themed performance. Donated by SNA Displays, the large screens are rushed onto the field by a crew of volunteers led by our Executive Vice President Jason Helton, also a Leander HS band parent, to provide a unifying visual element to the band’s piece titled Curiouser and Curiouser.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the technology integration is how the displays are powered throughout the performance. To provide a mobile solution with no noise pollution, Jason and the SNA Team developed a solution comprised of nine 3,600-watt high-performance batteries. Greatly helping with mobility and the efficiency of setup and teardown, the batteries are able to provide ample power throughout the show’s peak surges as well.

Strinko Studios, in collaboration with Ryan Sirna, director of bands at Leander HS, developed an 8-minute video for the LED displays that synchronizes with the band’s music to bring out the magic of Alice’s famous trip down the rabbit hole. To sync with the band, the creative video show is divided into more than 20 individual pieces.

This season, the band earned multiple finalist placements and awards in statewide and regional contests, including the Texas high school 5A state championships, the Texas Marching Classic, and the Bands of America (BOA) regional competitions.

The LED video element to Leander’s performance made an obvious impression at the recent BOA Super Regionals. Tournament commentators noted that Leander High’s performance represented the first-ever use of large-format LED video at the tournament, observing a recent increase in the pageantry arts aspect of the competition. One commentor referred to the screens as “enticing” and noted how well they drew attention to soloist performances.
