VIDEO: Nike Innovation Showcased on Interactive LED Screen

As part of the roll-out for Nike's innovative running shoe called the Nike Epic React, Jimmy Kimmel Live performed a competition of sorts on SNA Displays' newest interactive mega-spectacular LED display project in Los Angeles.

The - ahem - race featured Jimmy Kimmel's famed security guard, Guillermo, and LA Rams' all-pro running back Todd Gurley. The two selected avatars and then hopped on a treadmill as a crowd gathered to watch the competitors' efforts play out virtually on an 18,000-square-foot LED canvas, manufactured by SNA Displays and installed by Yesco.

The cutting-edge LED technology was installed earlier this year at Circa (1200 S. Figueroa) Los Angeles as part of the site's massive development.

The LED displays, located across from the STAPLES Center in downtown L.A., were manufactured by Sansi and installed by YESCO. Famed Jimmy Kimmel security guard and L.A. Times Square's Newest Mega-Spectacular Has It All

Times Square's Newest Mega-Spectacular Has It All

The mega-spectacular at 20 Times Square, billed as The New Times Square Experience, has just about all the bells and whistles you could ask for in an LED video screen. Sure, you could accuse me of being a bit biased -- I work for Sansi North America (SNA) Displays, the company that manufactured and installed the display -- but in 13+ years in the LED display industry, I haven't seen anything quite like it.

The LOCATION

20 Times Square is the designation for 701 Seventh Avenue in New York City's bow-tie. At the corner of 47th and 7th, the screen towers over Duffy Square and the famous red steps near the TKTS booth. The huge wrap-around display is mounted to the high-rise building facade of the new Times Square EDITION, a 452-key hotel premiering in 2018. The real estate development, including the procurement of the massive video screen, was headed up by WitkoffMaefield DevelopmentHoward Lorber’s Vector GroupIan Schrager, and Winthrop Realty Trust.

Another Historic Site Upgraded with Cutting-Edge Displays: Express Times Square

Positioned as Times Square’s new LED ‘bookend’ to the south of the bowtie, the project site is the new home to Champs Sports, a division of Foot Locker, as well as other building tenants such as Tommy Hilfiger and Liz Claiborne.

Sign Connections, X-Rays and Structural Engineering Challenges

Sign Connections, X-Rays and Structural Engineering Challenges

If you tend to appreciate the intricacies of large-scale project installations, here's a little tidbit that you may find interesting. As part of the intensive display installation ongoing at Circa Towers (1200 S. Figueroa) in Los Angeles, SNA Displays was tasked with installing two steel frame structural systems. The primary system is designed to reinforce the existing building slab edge while the secondary structural system is used for attaching our LED display sections to the building. (An alternative design was engineered to combine these systems into a single frame, but the dual structural frames were ultimately chosen for a slimmer profile, limiting the display's projection off the face of the building.)

Understanding Pixel Pitch

Understanding Pixel Pitch

For pedestrians, auto traffic, event-goers and other consumers, nothing turns heads and captures attention quite like digital signage. Dynamic and vivid LED displays prove superior at content delivery and message dissemination compared to traditional advertising tools such as printed posters, billboards and other types of static signage. But to get the most out of an LED display solution, it’s important to understand the technology as much as possible so it can be optimally deployed. One factor that should be given particular consideration is pixel pitch.
